Proscare 5 Tablet Finasteride is used to shrink an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) in adult men.It may be used alone or taken in combination with other medications to reduce symptoms of BPH and may also reduce the need for surgery. Finasteride may improve symptoms of BPH and provide benefits such as decreased urge to urinate, better urine flow with less straining, less of a feeling that the bladder is not completely emptied, and decreased nighttime urination.
This medication works by decreasing the amount of a natural body hormone (DHT) that causes growth of the prostate.Finasteride is not approved for prevention of prostate cancer. It may slightly increase the risk of developing a very serious form of prostate cancer. Talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks.Women and children should not use this medication.
It is to be taken by mouth with or without food. The dose and duration of the medicine should be taken as per prescription. An overdose of it may cause harm to your health. It is better to take the medicine at the same time each day and it must be swallowed as a whole.
It may take some time for the medicine to act upon the symptoms, so it is important to take the medicine regularly. The course of the treatment should be completed for better efficacy of the medicine. This medicine is usually well tolerated. However, it may cause some mild sexual side effects such as ejaculation disorder, erectile dysfunction, and decreased libido.
Some people may also experience allergic reactions such as itching, rashes, and swelling of the lips or face. If you experience any of these side effects, consult your doctor without delay. Before starting the treatment, it is important to tell your doctor if you are taking any medication for any health condition. This will ensure your safety.
How to use Proscare
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking finasteride and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once a day.
If the tablet is crushed or broken, it should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or by a woman who may become pregnant (see also Precautions section).
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. It may take 6 to 12 months to notice a benefit.
It should be taken with or without meals. The drug should be taken exactly as prescribed in terms of dosage and duration. It might be harmful to your health if you take too much of it. It’s best to take your medication at the same time every day, and you must drink it whole.
Because the drug may take some time to work on the symptoms, it is essential to take it on a daily basis. To improve the medicine’s effectiveness, the course of therapy should be finished.
